Letter: City Council should know, recognize law
Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007 | 7:12 a.m.
Regarding the Las Vegas Sun's Jan. 23 story, "City Council turns blind eye to cabbie payments":
Can we please get this one straight? There is a law on the city books that states it is unlawful to pay cabbies to bring customers to topless clubs - Ordinance 6.06.195 to be exact.
But the Las Vegas City Council members, all of them, were seemingly unaware of this law. What is more disturbing, one councilman quipped, "I think everybody recognizes that goes on in this town." As if that is justification to the invalid nature of the law, because we just know what goes on, never mind to actually apply such a silly law.
This is a sad commentary on our city officials and our fair city in general.
