Letter: Iraq has become a bottomless pit
Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007 | 7:04 a.m.
A Jan. 23 letter from Peter Sams stated that were it not for the Democrats in Congress, the war on terror would have been over two years ago. I would like to remind the writer with the myopic memory that it was the Republican Party that has held the majority for years. We are where we are because of a distraction in Iraq that took the focus off of the actual war on terror.
That distraction has grown into an unquenchable Hydra that devours our troops at will. Not until we stop pouring money into the bottomless pit that is Iraq, and stop feeding the Hydra, will we once again be able to focus on the war on terror.
Saddam Hussein has become a mere footnote in history, while the architects of terrorism continue to operate completely unchecked. If the Republicans truly want to be effective, all they have to do is to stop being in lockstep with their party leader and redirect attention back to the real war on terror.
