FLASHPOINT for Jan 25, 2007

Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007 | 7:04 a.m.

The analogy is fairly obvious and both chief executives started their speeches this week the same way. Gov. Jim Gibbons: "Please rise as I become the first Nevada governor to say these words: Madame Speaker." President Bush: "I have a high privilege and distinct honor of my own - as the first president to begin the State of the Union message with these words: Madame Speaker." So maybe Bush is the plagiarist here? Actually, the analogy goes further. It didn't take long for the olive branch to be snapped off in either capital. Speaker Nancy Pelosi was immediately after the president and Speaker Barbara Buckley was all over the governor. I wonder if the two men are still speaking of the new speakers so fondly?
