Letter: Math doesn’t add up on gas prices in U.S.

On May 25, 2005, the price for a barrel of oil was $50. The price of a gallon of gas was $1.39. Today the price of oil was once again at $50 per barrel. The only change is that a gallon of gas is now at $2.49.

Does anyone see anything wrong with this picture?

Our elected officials, Democrats and Republicans alike, don't have much to say on the issue. In fact this is one issue on which our political parties seem to show a united front. They are united because they either fear Big Oil or they are in their pockets.

Obviously Congress and the Oval Office should continue to devote a lot of their time and energy to the war, but don't entirely forget that there are many other issues, such as the price of gas, that need attention.
