Letter: Force won’t solve all of our problems

Friday, Jan. 19, 2007 | 6:56 a.m.

It seems that President Bush has not learned from history that we can't win wars by only increasing troop strength. Let's take the Vietnam War as a good example. In spite of sending a half-million servicemen over there, with at least a 10 percent casualty rate, we still lost. And then we had to struggle to get them out.

When is this country going to learn that we can't solve all the world's problems by brute force? Let's start taking care of our own, of which there are plenty - take Katrina's aftermath as a good example.
