FLASHPOINT for Jan 18, 2007

Thursday, Jan. 18, 2007 | 7:08 a.m.

The Legislature hasn't started yet and already the fancy footwork has begun. During a legislative preview Wednesday on KNPR's "State of Nevada," host Dave Berns asked lawmakers about the 1979 spending cap and wondered if it should be repealed. Two GOP lawmakers - Senate Majority Leader Bill Raggio and Assembly Minority Leader Garn Mabey - suggested that the public wouldn't go for it. Senate Minority Leader Dina Titus talked about the growth-related needs. But when pressed by Berns, she said it was a moot point, then said she wouldn't introduce the bill, then didn't answer whether she would vote for it. Assembly Majority Leader John Oceguera simply changed the subject. Ah, principles.
