They say hard work is its own reward, but for Adam Marks the reward for hard work is a birthday party spanning three days fueled by $5,000 in squanderable cash.
Marks is showroom manager for "Hypnosis Gone Wild" at the Harmon Theater at Krave. Marks is young to be in such a position - the weekend celebration was for his 21st birthday - but he has proven his worth by working a grueling schedule for the show's stars, Terry Stokes and Michael Johns. Marks began his career at age 18, working as an usher for Johns in his production at the since-closed Bourbon Street, and in an e-mail sent during a break in the action said, "I guess they appreciate me because I work seven nights a week." (Stokes and Johns have no scheduled dark nights at Krave.)
Marks' party began Friday at Moon nightclub inside the Playboy Club at the Palms. The Marks party, which numbered 15, downed three bottles of Absolut at $400 apiece (Stokes kicked in $2,000 for the event) and were given VIP treatment. On Sunday night Johns grabbed Marks by the scruff of the neck and led him to Light at Bellagio and, finally, to adult club Spearmint Rhino. Johns spent $3,000 on the second party, which ended at 6 a.m. Monday. We hope to hear from Marks as soon as he wakes up ... or comes to.

Tireless R&B vocalist Earl Turner's final performance at Sound Trax at Palace Station will be Jan. 28. No word yet on where he will land, but we do hear that Gerry McCambridge, star of "The Mentalist" at the soon-to-be-razed Stardust, will move into the small showroom. Turner's run at Palace Station lasted about 11 months. ...
The Smith Center for the Performing Arts has retained Gallagher Associates to organizing the center's fundraising efforts. Gallagher Associates was founded by John Gallagher, the former executive director of the UNLV Foundation and one-time vice president of development for the university. The official opening date of the center has also been pushed back, from 2010 to 2011. It is to be located across the street from the World Market Center on Grand Central Parkway in the Union Park development. On Monday, Performing Arts Foundation President Myron Martin said: "We're playing it realistically. Now that the design team is doing its work we're setting new timelines from drafting to construction. The 2011 date, early 2011, is when we should expect to be open. It could be earlier, but this is a conservative estimate." ...
Spirited broadcast journalist Chris Matthews, a judge for the Miss America Pageant (finals are set for Jan. 29 at the Theatre for the Performing Arts at Aladdin/Planet Hollywood), will be broadcasting his MSNBC political talk show "Hardball" from Las Vegas during pageant week. Dates, guests and sites (as in, from where) for the show have not been announced. ...

Caesars Palace execs are giddy over Rao's, the Vegas outpost of the famous Italian restaurant in East Harlem that is legendary for both its food and restricted table availability (Madonna has been turned away and Bill Clinton had to "borrow" a table, according to Rao's legend). So far the new Rao's is not nearly as difficult to crack, but prospective diners are strongly advised to call days ahead for a reservation, or to show up between 5 and 6 p.m. (or later, around 10 p.m.) to see if anyone has canceled. The Vegas Rao's opened Dec. 6 and is about five times larger than the original, which seats just 54.
