Letter: This isn’t Vietnam; it’s World War III
Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007 | 7:14 a.m.
Regarding Carrie Steele's Jan. 8 letter, "Time for the people to pull the plug":
As a Vietnam vet, I fully remember the Vietnam War. I also remember the 3 million murders that occurred in Southeast Asia after we cut and ran because the gutless Democratic Congress and Senate cut off funding. The Vietnam War was not lost by the U.S. military but by the politicians and the peace activists who tied the hands of the U.S. military. LBJ was picking targets from the Oval Office.
North Vietnamese Gen. Vo Nguyen Giap stated that North Vietnam had no way of winning the war until the peace movement took over and the politicians took their lead from them. This war is completely different than Vietnam in that the Muslims have been attacking the U.S. for about 20 years, and only Republican presidents had the guts to do something about it.
If we pull out of Iraq, you can bet that we will be fighting the Muslims on our own shores. If you do not believe we are currently in World War III, you had better think again.
