Letter: Safe reputation worth more than federal aid
Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007 | 7:15 a.m.
A few local and state officials have been insisting that Las Vegas deserves to be on the list of high-risk cities in imminent danger of terrorist attack.
Wouldn't it make more sense to tell the world that Las Vegas is a safe, relaxing, enjoyable place to visit? We are first and foremost a tourist town, right? You can live "on the edge" here, but you probably won't fall off.
Enlightened government officials would have seen the value of promoting Las Vegas as a worry-free destination, reminding potential visitors that we aren't on the dreaded list, even if it meant passing up a few federal dollars.
