Letter: Curtailing growth is long overdue

Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007 | 7:14 a.m.

The recent series in the Las Vegas Sun by Launce Rake, "Chasing Lake Mead's water," was excellent.

The Jan. 4 Sun editorial, "Lake Mead under siege," was very good, but it failed to bring to the surface what actually is taking place here. We residents are encouraged to conserve water while builders are permitted to build residences for hundreds of thousands more residents.

This growth cannot continue forever and we should learn to live with no growth. We are headed to urban sprawl, water shortages and massive air pollution. Our current leaders are living for today and to heck with Las Vegas in the years ahead, when they will be long gone.

John Stewart, Las Vegas
