John Katsilometes on Passion Parties’ Pat Davis and her new book
Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007 | 7:16 a.m.
It was the Beach Boys who originally extolled good vibrations, but Pat Davis has made that theme a way of life. And the president of Passion Parties Inc. is taking her message to the masses today with the release of "The Passion Parties Guide to Great Sex" (Random House, $19).
The book draws on experience from several of Passion Parties' 28,000 "passion consultants," who are part of the company's multilevel business plan. Consultants (all female) host small parties to show off the latest in sensual products and romance accessories. Guests (again, all female) usually purchase something to energize their relationships and can sign on with the company to become a passion consultant. It's sort of like the model made famous by Tupperware, except ...
"After a Tupperware party, your husband or significant other is not waiting up in bed for you to come home with Tupperware," said Davis, who turns 63 on Valentine's Day (of course) and has been married to Ollie Davis for 45 years. Passion Parties conducts its corporate business in Las Vegas. Five years ago the headquarters moved from San Francisco to a 10,000-square-foot space at the Howard Hughes Center. The 30,000-square-foot warehouse, which ships supplies to consultants across North America, sits behind Mandalay Bay.
To promote the book, Davis is scheduled to appear on NBC's "Today Weekend" on Saturday (the show airs from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.) and a network crew taped a Passion Party event Monday night in Summerlin. But Davis seems more excited about an event she attended over the weekend in Los Angeles, where she met Willie Mays and signed an advance copy of her book for Larry King. "I have this feeling," Davis said, laughing, "that my book is sitting on Larry King's nightstand."

This month's Miss America pageant will mark the first time the Aladdin will be formally titled Planet Hollywood. That will be the hotel name used by CMT during its Miss America coverage (the finals are Jan. 29). The resort continues to move forward with renovations to, in fact, become Planet Hollywood, but the formal change-over won't take place until the spring. Recently the lobby and new buffet have been finished, the new casino floor is almost fully completed and Theatre for the Performing Arts' renovations are in place (the venue will have a flexible capacity, from 4,000 to 7,000, and is sold out at 7,000 for the pageant prelims and finals) ...
We're bigger than Coke: According to the annual ranking report from national marketing firms Landor & Associates and Penn Schoen & Berland, Las Vegas is expected to be among the top brands in the nation in 2007. Topping the list is Google, followed by Las Vegas, Yahoo! and Target. In the survey, conducted Dec. 11-15, a total of 2,017 consumers were asked to rank 92 brands (included were celebrities and products) familiar to them and to forecast those brand's prospects for the upcoming year. ...
Reports that students at the Community College of Southern Nevada have signed a petition to lop "community" from the school's title because the word has negative connotations is reminiscent of a bit from Chris Rock: "Community college is like a disco with books; 'Here's $10, wanna get my learn on!' " ...
