Jeff Haney outlines many of the different proposition bets being offered for tonight’s BCS national title game

Monday, Jan. 8, 2007 | 7:25 a.m.

Las Vegas sports books are offering a variety of proposition wagers on tonight's BCS title game between Florida and Ohio State.

The Buckeyes are favored by 7 1/2 points in the game to determine college football's national champion, with featured "props" linked to team and individual performances tonight at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., including this sampling:

Ohio State scored three consecutive times in 11 of its 12 games, including all four times the point spread was 14 or fewer. The "yes" would have cashed in nine of Florida's 12 games that had a point spread attached, although Auburn and Tennessee did the unanswered scoring against the Gators (12-1 straight-up, 4-8 against the spread).

Florida senior kicker Chris Hetland struggled for much of the season, making only four of 13 field goals. He didn't make one longer than 30 yards until he connected on a 33-yarder in the Southeastern Conference title game against Arkansas.

Smith won the Heisman Trophy but at 6-foot-1 will likely need a strong showing to improve his prospects in the forthcoming NFL draft. Some fans wonder if he'll succumb to the so-called Heisman "jinx" - five of the past six Heisman Trophy winners played in the title game, with only USC's Matt Leinart (2004 season) winning.

Smith threw only five interceptions all season to go with 30 touchdowns in 297 attempts.

Pittman, who rushed for 1,171 yards and 13 touchdowns, went "over" this total six times this season and "under" it another six. Twice he had exactly 18 carries. Florida ranks sixth in the nation in rush defense and held talented Arkansas running backs Darren McFadden and Felix Jones to 130 yards, so it probably won't be easy for the Buckeyes to establish a dominant running game.

In the Gators' 12 lined games (discounting their 62-0 victory against Western Carolina, which does not appear on the betting board), Leak went "over" 19 twice, "under" 19 eight times and had exactly 19 twice. Freshman quarterback Tim Tebow receives a share of the playing time along with Leak.

The "over" was only 1-9-2 in this category in Florida's lined games, though Leak had 30 and 34 attempts in Florida's last two games.

Leak had 13 interceptions, including two against Arkansas, to go with his 22 touchdowns this season.

When oddsmakers released their early numbers on this game, Ohio State was favored by 8 points with an over/under of 48, indicating a projected final score of 28-20 or so. Since then, the projected total number of points and the Buckeyes' perceived advantage in the betting line have drifted slightly downward.
