Letter: Bush lacks traits needed in president

Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007 | 7:33 a.m.

There has been a lot of talk lately about intelligence and who President Bush listened to or relied upon for the correct information for him to act upon. I agree that it's important to listen and learn from so-called experts in the field. But when you make yourself the Decider, you have to compile the information given you and be wise and honest enough to use it correctly.

Now we all know that his agenda wasn't based on any information or intelligence given him; his agenda was completely predetermined and he was going to do exactly what he has done. Nothing right and everything wrong.

The question then becomes why? Why, when you know that more than 3,000 of our young men and women have died and 25,000 or so have been wounded, would you not even consider a major reduction in armed forces in Iraq?

If I hear the president use the word sacrifice again, or the stupid statement, "I appreciate their sacrifice," I will go bonkers. Please, Mr. Decider, say less and do more.

I am a firm believer in intelligence, and wouldn't you think it would be prudent that all candidates for government positions should take some sort of test? A test of character, of integrity and common sense.
