The County Commission has this cute little part of its agenda called "good news" that was instituted to make everyone feel good before a meeting that may not make everyone feel good. Check out what happened this week on an item to praise a foundation that has raised millions for pediatric care at UMC: Foundation members Carolyn Sparks and Bill Flangas launched into a scathing criticism of the public hospital's administration for losing a contract with the Children's Miracle Network telethon. Flangas described "missteps" and "interference" that "poisoned the enthusiasm" of the board and caused its dissolution. Now that's good news? Actually at UMC, where the red ink is flowing, maybe that qualifi es as good news.
