Letter: Thinking happy thoughts won’t fix Iraq
Monday, Feb. 26, 2007 | 7:14 a.m.
It's past time for conservatives like letter writer David Fryer to take a reality check regarding the Iraq war ("Negative left-wing vibes are losing war," Feb. 22).
He should be aware that one-fourth of the population would starve if not for government rations and that many are ill because they have to drink the polluted waters of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. Also, 2 million Iraqis have fled the country, and that 1 1/2 million more have been displaced by the violence.
Additionally, United Nations figures show that 3,000 a month are killed by sectarian violence. The capper is a poll that shows that 61 percent of Iraqis favor attacks on U.S. and British forces.
Yet Mr. Fryer wants Democrats to remain positive about the war that President Bush started, suggesting that their negative thoughts are hurting our efforts there. The fact is that Iraq is a quagmire, a failure, the wrong war and another Vietnam.
