Letter: Iraq fiasco on heads of all politicians

Regarding Brian Greenspun's Feb. 18 commentary "on exactly who should be sorry for getting us into this terrible war":
First, ask yourself why Al Gore and John Kerry aren't in this presidential race. Now, stop rolling your eyes and remember that in the past two elections, they were.
In 2000 the major political parties forced us to choose between differing forms of incompetence, and the next time around we were confronted with a much more dangerous and urgent dilemma. We know the specifics as to the history of the 2004 candidates, and because of this we should entertain the notion that if the Democrats had offered just about anyone other than Kerry they could have defeated George W. Bush, and if the Republicans had denounced Bush and offered just about anyone else, they could have defeated Kerry in a landslide.
Gore. Bush. Kerry. Were they the best of the best, or are these guys little more than cogs in political machines whose allegiance to their handlers superseded all else? Those who should be sorry for this terrible war are the movers and shakers on both sides of our political spectrum, as well as their bought-and-paid-for politicians and appointees who arrogantly perpetuate business-as-usual formulas based upon just about everything other than the principles which made us great.
Say you are sorry, masters of the most powerful nation in history. Be ashamed of what you are doing to our great country, and why. Most of all, be very afraid of the reality that every one of you is responsible for creating a tragedy which now threatens us all.
