County wants an education about traffic around UNLV

Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007 | 7:04 a.m.

Clark County will not narrow Maryland Parkway as it passes UNLV without first understanding the effect on traffic in the area.

The County Commission voted Tuesday to postpone action until county staff and developers have time to address traffic problems created by the "Midtown" project.

Redevelopment along Maryland Parkway, from Tropicana Avenue on the south to Flamingo Road on the north, is the vision of developer Michael Saltman. He hopes to turn the one-mile stretch of road into a kind of leafy, pedestrian-friendly street lined with shops.

It is being modeled after Mill Avenue in Tempe, Ariz., which abuts the Arizona State University campus.

Commissioners did not set a timetable for reviewing the traffic issues.
