Letter: Nevadans deserve better than this
Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007 | 7:34 a.m.
When in the past 12 or 18 months have we seen a column, article or presentation via any media outlet that has extolled the virtues of the leadership, hard work and decency of a local or state level politician? I am looking for that glimmer of hope for someone to rise out of the muck of politics and make a change for the better, i.e., to be a leader.
Is the reason we have such pandering dolts a function of the utterly distasteful process of becoming elected? Where are the honest, decent and bright young men and women? Is our current lineup of politicians a byproduct of our mental laziness to understand local issues and then to actually vote. Why are not Rory Reid and the County Commission being lambasted for their utter leadership failure in the UMC fiasco? We are left with finger pointing, wagging tongues, sudden vacations, " not my job" and "I'm not an accountant" drivel. They can't even oversee the local animal shelter without complete chaos.
Why are we naming expressways for politicians when they are nothing but deathways? Anyone driven U.S. 95 lately at night from the Interstate 15 interchange north to the Lake Mead exits? Where are we? Baghdad? Who is leading this mess that has been grinding ever so slowly? Is that the County Commission again?
And now at the pinnacle of elected office in this state, we see the stumbling governor on the front page, not leading but retreating from substantial questions regarding his poor judgment, again.
We deserve so much better.
