Fundraiser set to benefit family of Hal Rothman
Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007 | 7:32 a.m.
Friends and fans of UNLV history professor Hal Rothman will hold a pizza party, raffle and auction next Saturday to help offset his family's medical expenses.
Rothman suffers from ALS, or Lou Gehrig's Disease. The father of two was diagnosed in December 2005. The disease robs its victims of all motor functions, erasing any ability to move and, in the end stages, to communicate, while keeping the victim's mental functions intact.
Rothman is the former chair of UNLV's History Department, author and contributor to 17 books, and a former columnist for the Las Vegas Sun.
Metro Pizza will donate portions of pizza and beverage sales. Also held will be a raffle with $10 tickets and a silent auction for Strip hotel packages, a Mario Andretti Racing School driving package, bicycle prizes, tickets to Mama Mia and Ka, tickets to the Barrera/Marquez boxing match, dinner for two at StripSteak, golf clubs, wine packages and more.
The fundraiser will be held 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Metro Pizza, 1420 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway.
A donation fund has been set up through Silver State Bank. Call (702) 949-9614, or write: Hal Rothman Family ALS Fight Donation Account, Acct. No. 81005997, Silver State Bank, 8901 W. Sahara Ave., Las Vegas, NV, 89117.
