Letter: Inspired by professor Hal Rothman

Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007 | 7:16 a.m.

I was reading the Las Vegas Sun's superb Feb. 9 article on Hal Rothman, a history professor at UNLV and until October a columnist for the Sun. I am sorry to see as great a person as Mr. Rothman with a crippling disease such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Mr. Rothman reminds me of my history teacher I had when I was a child, and it is because of that history teacher I am pursuing an undergraduate degree in history. I will also be pursuing, in the future, a Ph.D. in history.

It is people such as Mr. Rothman who are unique in the world that is history and the teaching of it. I admire and respect his zeal for preserving history, especially in Las Vegas, and one of these situations is the La Concha lobby.
