Letter: Poor decisions hamper monorail’s potential

Regarding the Las Vegas Sun's Feb. 1 story, "For LV visitors, monorail is a train to nowhere":

It is sad news about the monorail; it could have been a great attraction plus perform a desperate service as a people mover. Now it is hidden behind resort towers and is truly difficult to find; I wish my wife would hide my toolbox as effectively.

I have owned a home in Clark County for six years, but I have only lived here full time the past year, so I was not up on this.

Why wasn't the monorail put down the center of Las Vegas Boulevard, starting at Warm Springs Road and ending somewhere near Fremont Street? The first thing I remember at Disneyland, years ago, was its monorail passing overhead at the entrance to the park. What an attraction it would be to have an accessible people mover down the middle of the Strip. I would spend more time on the Strip with a convenient public transit vehicle than I do now; only on occasion do I go to the Strip to see a show production - never dinner, shopping or gaming.

With a monorail moving successfully over the median on Las Vegas Boulevard, an eastbound connector to the airport would make total sense. At each resort stop there should be simple stations that cater to hotel check-in, luggage handling, etc. The folks who buried the monorail behind the east side resorts should be questioned for making a huge error in location and wasting a lot of dollars.
