Letter: It’s now up to Europe to stop Bush’s tyranny
Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007 | 7:13 a.m.
Joyce Segal hit the nail on the head in her Feb. 1 letter, "Bush rocked relatively stable boat in Iraq." And although many Americans are coming around to realizing the damage that President Bush is doing, it's too late to make a difference.
Four years later, public indifference and the failure of the Democratic Party to stand up against the current administration has only fueled the march on the Middle East. But America doesn't seem to notice. The real battle is on the football field and Sunday is the granddaddy of 'em all - the Super Bowl!
Before she died, political writer Molly Ivins said that every American should take to the streets every day and bang pots and pans in noisy protest until the war in Iraq ends. But noise won't do it. No amount of personal or group action within this country will have an effect. Foreign intervention is the only hope left to save the world from mass destruction.
I am going to send a personal letter to the leaders of the major European countries and Canada, urging them to take action against George W. Bush and his gang of hysterical tyrants. My letter will ask that a united European tribunal charge Bush and his entourage in a court of international law for crimes against humanity. Bush has his eye on Iran now and if war spreads to Pakistan and the surrounding Arab countries, he will have successfully started World War III.
