Letter: Bush reminiscent of Marie Antoinette
Monday, Dec. 31, 2007 | 1:32 a.m.
Nearly 50 million Americans without medical insurance are really no problem, according to President George W. Bush. His explanation is that they can go to the emergency room of the hospital.
He calls himself the Decider, but in this case it makes you wonder how much he knows about emergency rooms. Does he know that more than 100 emergency rooms across the country have shut down in the last 10 years due to more and more uninsured coming to them?
Does the Decider know that more emergency beds are desperately needed in many cities and nothing is and will be done about it? Why? Because more emergency beds would bring more uninsured and unprofitable patients, much to the dismay of hospital administrators.
How much time do you think the Decider has spent in emergency rooms in his entire life, as well as his parents and his family? If one is super rich but out of touch, heartless and president of the United States, well it's a damn shame. Let them go to the emergency rooms ranks right up there with let them eat cake.
