Letter: Smoking ban fair, should help business
Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007 | 7:18 a.m.
In response to Brad Evans' Monday letter: He seems to encourage those of us who are nonsmokers to cheerfully tolerate inhaling carcinogenic cigarette exhaust from thoughtless people in restaurants while we are eating. I don't have to mention the well-documented fact that smokers take a shortcut to the cemetery - and the rest of us aren't in a hurry to join them prematurely because of secondhand smoke.
People who are so addicted to cigarettes they can't get through a meal without firing up deserve our sympathy and really need help. Maybe Dr. Phil can take this up.
California restaurants seem to be doing well smoke-free. Many say business is better than ever now, but maybe Californians are more enlightened on the subject than Las Vegans.
The old expression, "Your right to swing your arms stops where my nose begins," seems to fit this situation.
