Letter: Big spender Bush suddenly a budget miser
Monday, Dec. 24, 2007 | 6:56 a.m.
President Bush says he is disappointed in the Congress. Ditto. I am disappointed in Congress 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005, too.
He claims Congress spends too much. He's right, and if it had saved just a few of our tax dollars maybe it could have bought Mr. Bush a nice veto pen that actually worked. Now that the Democrats have some control over the Congress he's finally got enough money to buy a pen. What irony!
I haven't seen such a rapid turnaround, not even those Huckabee jailhouse conversions to religion in Arkansas, as Mr. Bush had in supporting fiscal conservatism. This must have been extremely difficult for him, given that he has increased the federal deficit by a whopping $3 trillion in only six short years!
I sure hope he's been able to make a lot of money in his blind trust. We can all use a little relief from the $47,000 in debt that every adult in America now owes to the U. S. Treasury. It's Christmas, Mr. Bush, so could you please spare us a dime?
