FLASHPOINT for Dec 10, 2007

I don't think Chancellor Jim Rogers gets that old saw about politics being a game of addition, not subtraction. The mercurial, obstreperous chancellor (easier to be so when you have hundreds of millions of dollars) has been advocating for higher education with a force heretofore unseen in recent months. And his crusade against the governor's budget cuts has been a thing of brutal beauty. But in his flailing about to lessen the impact, although he has energized students and legislators, Rogers' latest missive may create enemies. In a letter, he suggested to the governor that cities and counties should pay more for higher ed, like the 38 percent municipalities in Arizona pay for community colleges. Paging Rory Reid and Oscar Goodman.
