Letter: Weekly has positive influence in county
Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007 | 7 a.m.
We share the gratitude expressed Wednesday by letter writer Gloria Gonzalez for Clark County Commissioner Lawrence Weekly's spending of discretionary funds. We benefited directly when Mr. Weekly, who was then a member of the Las Vegas City Council, rescued the basketball program in the public middle schools in 2002-03.
Our daughter transferred to the public schools as an eighth grader that year after attending a private school in Green Valley for 10 years. She played basketball for Thurman White and went on to play for Green Valley High.
The benefits she derived from those experiences are far too numerous to enumerate, but for those who understand the importance of celebrating our children and building fond memories for families, there is no need to state the obvious. In the spirit of the Aesop's fable "The Lion and the Mouse," we thank you Mr. Weekly. We are grateful.
