FLASHPOINT for Dec 01, 2007

Darren Mack may be a lot of things - he pleaded guilty to killing his wife and said the state could prove he tried to shoot a judge in Reno. But who knew he was a philosophizing deep thinker, too? Mack now wants to withdraw his guilty plea and has fired his lawyers. "And the truth shall set you free," headlines a news release his PR firm sent out Friday. And it has this, too: " 'Truth resides in every human heart, and one has to search for it there, and to be guided by truth as one sees it. But no one has a right to coerce others to act according to his own view of truth.' Mahatma Mohandas K. Gandhi." Seriously. The release concludes thusly: " 'When in doubt, tell the truth.' Mark Twain." Cue the rolling over in graves thing.
