U.S. Military Deaths in Iraq at 3,735

As of Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007, at least 3,735 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. The figure includes seven military civilians. At least 3,058 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military's numbers.

The AP count is three higher than the Defense Department's tally, last updated Thursday at 10 a.m. EDT.

The British military has reported 168 deaths; Italy, 33; Ukraine, 18; Poland, 21; Bulgaria, 13; Spain, 11; Denmark, seven; El Salvador, five; Slovakia, four; Latvia, three; Estonia, Netherlands, Thailand, two each; and Australia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Romania, South Korea, one death each.

The latest identifications reported by the military:

- Army Sgt. James S. Collins Jr., 35, Rochester Hills, Mich.; died Tuesday in Kirkuk of wounds suffered during combat operations; assigned to the 303rd Military Police Company (Combat Support), U.S. Army Reserve, Jackson, Mich.

- Army Capt. Erick M. Foster, 29, Wexford, Pa.; died Wednesday in Balad of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit during combat operations in Muqdadiyah; assigned to the 1st Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

- Marine Cpl. John C. Tanner, 21, Columbus, Ga.; died Wednesday while conducting combat operations in Anbar province; assigned to the 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
