WHO'S MADE THE LEAP
There are musicians who dabble in acting and actors who dabble in music. Seems like some musicians really are actors.
Lots of rappers, too. But fewer actors really are musicians (although many of them show up in Las Vegas with their bands anyway). Don't believe us? Consider this abridged list:
Actors who dabble
William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy
Singing where no man has gone before.
Lindsay Lohan
Singing proof that P.T. Barnum was right.
David Hasselhoff
Millions of Germans can be wrong.
Bruce Willis
Bruno is a legend in his own mind.
Russell Crowe
Too many grunts and not enough of his big-screen magnetism behind the mic.
Musicians who dabble
Elvis Presley
All 31 movies were an excuse to hear him sing.
Eminem and 50 Cent
Playing their legends in “8 Mile”
and “Get Rich or Die Tryin.'”
Mariah Carey
All that “Glitters” isn't gold.
Britney Spears
Let's hope she doesn't go down to the “Crossroads” again.
Ice Cube
All the promise of “Boyz N the Hood” has gone down the drain.
Actors who are musicians
Kevin Bacon
“Footloose” star needed only one degree of separation to form the Bacon Brothers.
John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd
“SNL” stars knew enough to get together “the band.”
Jennifer Lopez
Former Fly Girl took “Selena” role seriously and carved out recording career.
Woody Allen
Goes “Bananas” over Dixieland.
Jack Black
His comedy and love of rock mix in Tenacious D.
Musicians who are actors
Frank Sinatra
Won an Oscar for “From Here to Eternity”
Liza Minnelli
Won an Oscar for “Cabaret.”
Barbra Streisand
Won an Oscar for “Funny Girl.”
David Bowie
He's played an alien, Andy Warhol, Nikola Tesla and Pontius Pilate.
Harry Connick Jr.
Romantic (“Hope Floats”) and really creepy (“Copycat”).
Rappers who are actors
Tupac Shakur
Watch Tupac with Tim Roth in “Gridlock'd” and you'll regret he didn't have a longer film career.
Will Smith
The Fresh Prince.
Queen Latifah
The Princess of the Posse has become a glamour queen.
Mos Def
One of the most literate rappers can even carry Bruce Willis for “16 Blocks.”
Ice-T
Went from “Cop Killer” to “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.”
