Some Bush insiders and when they left their posts:
- Alberto Gonzales: Moved from White House counsel to attorney general, February 2005; leaving office Sept. 17.
- Karl Rove, political adviser, leaving Aug. 31.
- Harriet Miers, White House counsel after Gonzales became attorney general; Supreme Court nomination failed in 2005; left last January.
- Donald Rumsfeld, defense secretary, left in December 2006.
- Andrew Card, chief of staff, left in April 2006.
- Colin Powell, secretary of state, left January 2005.
- Condoleezza Rice, moved from national security adviser to secretary of state in January 2005.
- Karen Hughes, counselor to the president, left administration in July 2002, rejoined as undersecretary of state for public diplomacy in July 2005.
