Letter: Rove has brought shame to this country
Friday, Aug. 24, 2007 | 7:41 a.m.
President Bush has often referred to Karl Rove as the "architect" of his political career. Since the "Decider" has no further campaigns to run, Rove, the "Deceiver," is now free to undermine democracy further by helping other political candidates misrepresent and distort the records of their opponents.
His divisive and dirty political tactics have succeeded in making many Americans think that the opposing political party cannot have a good idea and that only he and the Decider know what is good for the country.
Rove leaves his position with a trail of outstanding political blunders behind him. The Iraq war, a lack of immigration reform, a failed Social Security initiative, an economy flirting with recession, poverty on the rise, health care costs out of control and the loss of Republican majorities in the House and Senate, possibly for a generation.
Rove is responsible for political schemes used to perpetuate the power of one party to the detriment of our democratic system. He is accountable for the depletion of our prestige abroad and of our strength as a nation and a world power. He mastered the use of character assassination as a legitimate political tool, and when evaluating his character we should not overlook his traitorous act of exposing a CIA agent for political reprisal.
Unfortunately for America, Karl Rove's greatest accomplishment is also his greatest shame. It took more than an ordinary man to persuade an entire nation to place its trust in a man not worthy of it.
