If there is anyone out there not named Oscar Goodman who thinks not one, but two arenas will be built in the Las Vegas Valley, raise your hand. I'd guess no hands are going up, although I am sure some folks wearing straitjackets are trying. After Harrah's announced that deal to build a $500 million arena with AEG, His Honor kept a straight face and said, "With the competition, they're going to be able to get a better deal. So it's a win-win." Competition between arenas in a city that doesn't have one professional sports team? A downtown scheme that looks more iffy by the day and costs 21 times more than a Strip plan hatched by two huge companies? I ask again: Is there anyone out there who actually believes there will be two arenas?
