Letter: Self-defense lessons, not guns, are needed

On the subject of arming schoolteachers with handguns, I agree with those who say that possession of firearms within public schools should continue to be restricted to on-duty police officers.
It would, however, seem entirely logical to provide teachers with some training in the process of overpowering an armed assailant.
Additionally, a good case could be made for allowing teachers who have received appropriate training to possess nonlethal weapons.
