Letter: Californians should have stayed there
Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007 | 6:55 a.m.
After reading Elmer Long's Aug. 18 letter about what Nevadans do when visiting California and having to face that state's no smoking laws, I just had to respond. He asked whether Nevadans just walk into restaurants, stores, bars and beach areas there and just light up, or obey the law. If they obey the law in California, he wondered, why don't they obey it here?
Well, Elmer, I moved away from California 17 years ago to get away from people like you. But now look what you and others have gone and done - followed me here.
You Californians come in droves, using up our resources, raising the cost of homes, electricity, water and so forth. You've taken our great state and you're trying to turn it into a nanny state. We used to be a live-and-let-live state.
But, unfortunately, you and thousands of others want to change our Las Vegas into your Orange County.
Oh, and by the way, when I do have to go to California my friends and I know exactly which bars to go to and - horror of horrors - smoke.
