Letter: Politicians should deliver on promises
Monday, Aug. 20, 2007 | 7:10 a.m.
In the Aug. 16 edition of your paper, Jeff Bollinger had a letter published that discussed the problems in the country. He complained that politicians today do not inspire hope. I wholeheartedly agree with his assessment.
It seems to me that we should be concentrating less on whether politicians make broad, optimistic statements about what they will do once in office, and more on who will be writing and influencing their policies once they are in office.
My hope comes from the possibility that our next president could be someone who will fight to get money and its influence out of politics.
I'm not, however, necessarily trusting of any candidate who would make overly optimistic assessments of what can get done. These past seven years have been filled with enough optimism and hubris to last me a lifetime.
This time around I'm looking for optimism - and competence.
