Letter: In the end, we won’t have Iraq as a friend
Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007 | 7:20 a.m.
No matter what happens in Iraq - win, lose or draw - the country will never be an ally of the United States. There is no reason for Iraq to be loyal to America.
Iraq is now dominated by members of a Shiite government who are closely allied with their Shiite brothers in Iran. The Sunnis, who m we have deposed , despise America and support the insurgency. Muqtada al-Sadr and his Mahdi army and 2 million residents of Sadr City want America out of Iraq.
Only the Kurds love us because we have given them an independent state, However, I fear sooner or later the Turks will invade, most probably after we leave.
We can argue and debate the war, but what happens when we end up with an Iraq that is not a friend or ally of the United States? I have never heard anyone talk about this issue.
