Letter: Harry Reid is doing a great job as leader
Monday, Aug. 13, 2007 | 7:12 a.m.
Nevada Democrats should applaud Sen. Harry Reid for his energy and determination to alter the face of Congress, a Congress for the previous six years rendered irrelevant by the president and his loyalist Republicans.
Reid has constantly and consistently fought for the hopes and welfare of us, the commoners, with intelligence, candor and honor. He is imbued with the principles that have made him a rarity in the fight for humane and honorable government.
We will see little or no change in the attitudes of the Republican members of Congress, as they are rigidly set on playing "follow the leader."
But Sen. Reid and fellow Democrats have won over more Republicans to their thinking and should be credited with that small victory.
Harry Reid is no "grandstander" - his commitment is sincere and valid. Democrats can take pride in their senator.
