Letter: War in Iraq robs U.S. infrastructure
Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007 | 7:03 a.m.
The recent collapse of a Minneapolis bridge is yet another symptom of how our foolish protracted military involvement in Iraq has forced us to make costly sacrifices at home. Thousands of bridges may be in a state of disrepair, highways are crumbling and our railways are often cited as being in a state of neglect.
Furthermore, millions of Americans remain medically uninsured, colleges have had to raise tuition and curtail programs. Surely the list goes on, and we continue to pay taxes, but fail to see a reasonable return on our tax dollar investment.
With only the vaguest hope that the Iraq war will wind down any time soon, is this really what Americans want, or have we been bamboozled into accepting spending priorities that fail to put America first?
