FLASHPOINT for Apr 29, 2007

The biennial donkey/elephant basketball game took place last week in Carson City with an unfamiliar result: The Democrats won. And they did it the way the Republicans have so often won this contest designed to lighten up the legislative session: They cheated. The GOP has brought in ringers every year and this season was no different - a couple of high schoolers were on the squad. But the Democrats, who trailed by 14 at one point, brought in a couple of high schoolers of their own, including the state player of the year. Thus did the GOP lead evaporate. It might be an instructive lesson for Assembly Democratic lawmakers as they face down the GOP Senate in the waning days: If you can't beat 'em, cheat with 'em.
