Letter: Bush’s hypocrisy too blatant to ignore
Friday, April 27, 2007 | 7:19 a.m.
I am an American citizen who is deeply concerned by the current situation in Iraq. As I read the morning news today I was disgusted by President Bush's statements, which are quoted as follows:
"I'll veto a bill that restricts our commanders on the ground in Iraq, a bill that doesn't fund our troops, a bill that's got too much spending on it ... We stand united in saying loud and clear that when we've got our troops in harm's way, we expect that troop to be fully funded; and we've got commanders making tough decisions on the ground, we expect there to be no strings on our commanders; and that we expect the Congress to be wise about how they spend the people's money."
How can George Bush display such bold-faced hypocrisy?
He was the one who committed our troops to this war without the proper training and equipment needed to do their jobs in the first place. How can Bush make such outrageous statements in light of his clear record of not listening to the very generals he claims to respect?
For the president to claim that the new spending bill will restrict our commanders on the ground is nothing short of blatant hypocrisy.
Remember, it was George W. Bush who sent the troops into combat without a sound strategy and/or definition of victory. His statements and political gamesmanship are shameful.
The president is a liar and a hypocrite and he does the nation and our brave soldiers a grave disservice each and every time he makes statements like the ones above. History will no doubt judge George W. Bush as the most corrupt and inept president in history.
