Letter: Reid’s the only one with guts to tell the truth
Thursday, April 26, 2007 | 7:03 a.m.
I t is a proud day to be from Nevada. At last someone is willing to stand up to this president. At long, long last someone, someone with power, someone who is serious, someone who has guts (our Sen. Harry Reid) has spoken out. Bring our troops home!
Being a target is not bravery. And a civil war about religion has nothing to do with our security. Many of us have been ashamed. We are ashamed about the lies, the torture, the murder of both our soldiers and the civilians in Iraq. This is a proud day to be from Nevada. For it is our senator, from this land, who finally utters the truth.
Where did he get his courage? Was it from the red, red rocks of Red Rock Canyon that cry out to our dead and wounded? Was it the scent of pine at Mount Charleston and the icy streams that cry out, I will heal our country? Was it the deep waters of Lake Tahoe that gave him the strength?
We are so tired of the spin from our leaders. We are weary of their mendacity. The scent of truth is powerful, fresh and must not be diluted. We want our husbands, our fathers, our sons, our grandsons home. We want them back alive and whole. They must not be sacrificed on a cross of oil profits.
