Ron Kantowski hails one little fella who wandered into the end zone and scored some TV exposure for the MWC
The MWC has been raked over the coals for signing away its TV rights to a couple of obscure cable networks that many of its fans are having trouble finding on the dial, no matter how times they check their local listings.
FLASHPOINT for Apr 26, 2007
Tonight we will find out if what happens in South Carolina stays in South Carolina. I hope that when the Democratic presidential hopefuls gather for the first debate of the campaign, someone asks a question about nuclear waste. Nuclear power is big in South Carolina. Consumers have paid an estimated $2 billion into the federal nuclear waste management fund. Thousands of metric tons of spent fuel are being stored in the state. I wonder how these supposed Friends of Nevada will answer if asked whether they support getting that waste out of South Carolina and on its way to Yucca ...
Editorial: Opening government
Two bills recently were approved by the full Assembly: Assembly Bill 605, which would regulate legal defense funds set up by elected officials, and AB433, which would mandate that the state Tax Commission make its decisions in public. The bills have widespread support - AB605 passed unanimously and AB433 passed 41-0 with one member not voting. The Senate now has a chance to act on these two common-sense measures that would give the public the ability to better see how government makes decisions and who influences those decisions.

LOOKING IN ON: UNLV MEN'S GOLF
UNLV's men's golf team should have familiarity on its side when it opens postseason play today in the Mountain West Conference Championship.
Editorial: Calculated deception
"I'm confused why they lied," Lynch said while testifying Tuesday before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. She told the committee she never knew why military officials portrayed her as a "Rambo from West Virginia" when she was simply riding in a truck - not fighting - when she was injured and captured.
Businesses confident state's aversion to tax will hold up
If Chancellor Jim Rogers thought Nevada's business community would stand beside him in supporting corporate and personal state income taxes, he's probably feeling a little lonely right now.

Editorial: Bragging rights trump need
Gov. Jim Gibbons has earned that moniker for putting his simplistic campaign vow to not increase fees or taxes ahead of the state's looming transportation crisis.
At war, by proxy
WASHINGTON - In a move unpopular among Nevada conservatives, Republican Sen. John Ensign said he personally muted his party's attack on Democratic Sen. Harry Reid for uttering last week that the "war is lost" in Iraq.
Letter: Metro right to deny uniform deviations
I am in favor of separation of church and state, church and school, and church and the workplace. Therefore, I do not think that Steve Riback should be allowed to wear a beard and a yarmulke, and I do not think officers should be allowed to wear a pin on their uniforms from a Christian organization that shows an open Bible.
CONVENTION CRASHING: ONCOLOGY NURSING SOCIETY
Despite, or perhaps because of, Ben Stiller comedies, fewer than 10 percent of nurses are men, which explains why at least one of the Mandalay Bay Convention Center men's rooms was turned over to women on Tuesday.
Letter: Fly flags at half-staff to honor fallen troops
I suggest we honor our troops and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice by flying the flag at half-staff, not as required by presidential order but by personal love and concern. We should do this until all our troops are returned from these theaters of occupation.
Letter: Reid's the only one with guts to tell the truth
Being a target is not bravery. And a civil war about religion has nothing to do with our security. Many of us have been ashamed. We are ashamed about the lies, the torture, the murder of both our soldiers and the civilians in Iraq. This is a proud day to be from Nevada. For it is our senator, from this land, who finally utters the truth.
