FLASHPOINT for Apr 18, 2007

Wednesday, April 18, 2007 | 7:12 a.m.

What would you say if I told you there was a public affairs show that created a nonprofit corporation to increase viewership, put lobbyists on this group's board and held a fundraiser honoring politicians? You would think it's a "Saturday Night Live" parody, right? If only. That's the plan behind Nevada Newsmakers Outreach, a corporation created by Sam Shad, the wonderful fellow who hosts the program "Nevada Newsmakers" in Reno - and it is sometimes shown here on Channel 3 . On the board are well-known lobbyists Jim Denton, Mary Lau and Scott Craigie. And next month the corporation is hosting a fundraiser in Carson City to honor legislative leaders Barbara Buckley and Bill Raggio. What planet am I on, folks?
