Editorial: A time for urgency
The Pentagon vows to provide more health screenings, simplify its disability claims system and reduce other red tape to make Walter Reed more efficient. Wounded soldiers cannot afford any more foot dragging.
90 seconds sealed Bogden's fate
WASHINGTON - Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' top aide has told congressional investigators that he cannot recall who recommended firing U.S. Attorney Daniel Bogden of Nevada or why. But the aide does remember that the final Justice Department conversation deciding Bogden's fate lasted about 90 seconds.
Letter: White House is showing its incompetence
It is an affront to all patriotic Americans to suggest that anyone would make decisions and judgments as to what is best for this country based on their feelings toward President Bush.
Editorial: Need for more inspections
Most recently the FDA's regulation of imported foods and ingredients has come under public scrutiny in the wake of recent recalls of pet foods containing wheat gluten from China, which was contaminated with an ingredient used in Asian fertilizers. Thousands of pets died or were sickened before the affected foods were taken off the market.
Long haul expected today at Las Vegas City Hall
Those planning to attend today's Las Vegas City Council meeting might want to pack a lunch ... and dinner ... and maybe a sleeping bag.
Q+A: Chris Dodd
( Editor's note: This is one in an occasional series of interviews with presidential candidates about issues of importance in the West.)
Next: Who doles out schools money
As if there isn't enough debate about how much money to give Nevada's schools, legislators are now unsure who should be in charge of distributing grants for school improvements.
Editorial: Another Hundred Years' War?
From his "stay the course" policy in 2004 even as the war became an obvious quagmire, to today, as he accuses Democrats of undercutting the troops for not blindly following his lead, Bush has never had a coherent war plan.
Letter: It's time to repeal 16th Amendment
It is taxation without representation and is a horrid example of America's sexist and racist discriminatory past.
The forgotten survivors
Months after her husband was killed in Afghanistan, Christa Griffith was at an Army post exchange, thumbing through T-shirts, looking for gifts for their three children.
Letter: Thank the president for vibrant economy
Mr. Oliver should restructure himself and refrain from reading the political commentaries (opinions) and start reading the business section (facts).
Letter: Don't pick on Bush twins for not enlisting
The Bush twins have the choice to enlist but obviously chose not to. I don't see Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and Nicole Ritchie beating the recruiters' doors down to enlist. They make the Bush twins look like Girl Scouts. Hilton, Spears and Ritchie lead terrible lifestyles but nothing negative ever gets said about them. Maybe their sacrifices were more noble.
Letter: Gun control should be key campaign issue
Why did this young man who shot 32 people in Virginia need a gun, or why did the man who killed those at the accounting firm last week need a gun?
Jon Ralston on the water decision and the shrewdness of Pat Mulroy
In the end, gamers and developers won. Don't they always?
FLASHPOINT for Apr 18, 2007
What would you say if I told you there was a public affairs show that created a nonprofit corporation to increase viewership, put lobbyists on this group's board and held a fundraiser honoring politicians? You would think it's a "Saturday Night Live" parody, right? If only. That's the plan behind Nevada Newsmakers Outreach, a corporation created by Sam Shad, the wonderful fellow who hosts the program "Nevada Newsmakers" in Reno - and it is sometimes shown here on Channel 3 . On the board are well-known lobbyists Jim Denton, Mary Lau and Scott Craigie. And next month the corporation is ...
