Letter: Freedom of speech applies to Imus, too
Monday, April 16, 2007 | 7:34 a.m.
Don Imus was stupid, idiotic and totally noncaring for ever opening his mouth about the Rutgers women's basketball team.
That said, CBS joined the other chicken, NBC, and fired Imus. They claim that their employees were so upset that they just had to do it - sounds like Chicken Little got loose in the halls to me.
The only concern they have is the loss of advertising dollars, nothing more! For them to be so easily and quickly swayed by a couple of has-beens, like the Revs. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, clearly demonstrates their weakness. Hear what Jason Whitlock has said about these leftovers from the 1960s.
To hear the Imus show and the diverse individuals who went on his show is the exercise of free speech personified! If you can't stand the heat, etc.
To paraphrase Voltaire, while I could never agree with what Imus has said, I will defend to the death his right to say it!
