FLASHPOINT for April 15, 2007

Sunday, April 15, 2007 | 7:39 a.m.

Peggy Noonan, the writer of 1,000 points of light fame, penned a provocative column recently about the smallness of the presidential candidates. "The presidency is an august office. Why are these candidates acting so small when the job they think they deserve is so big?" she wondered. And she made this analogy: "At the very least a major candidate should by now have absorbed and internalized that he is running for what is actually the presidency of the United States, and not, say, the Las Vegas City Council." Such an insult to the Las Vegas City Council has never been issued - or at least not by someone outside the valley. How dare she imply the council is insignificant, superficial and irrelevant? That's our job.
