Letter: Democrats prefer to shame our troops
Saturday, April 14, 2007 | 7:27 a.m.
Shame, shame! In his April 11 letter, Larry Burgess claims that Sen. Harry Reid - and I would add most Democrats and nearly 70 percent of the American people - is "attempting to see closure to the never-ending war in Iraq and provide for the safety of our troops as we bring the troops home in a timely withdrawal with honor."
If Harry and his ilk demand our warriors tuck their tails between their legs and bug out of Iraq before completing their mission, the pacifists will inflict a great deal of shame on our troops and themselves. Certainly the loved ones will be ecstatic to have them home. Certainly the troops will happily leave the lousy, dirty, dangerous, destructive job they have been doing their best to complete.
Just as certainly we will instill a level of shame in them of which the Monday morning quarterbacks cannot conceive. Just ask the Vietnam veterans who have spent 30-plus years shaking off the shame they did not deserve. Our troops will be heaped with faux honors, but they will feel the shame in their hearts for many years to come (your burden - not theirs). Our warriors know there is no honor in cutting and running, no honor in surrender, and no honor in not being allowed to complete their mission.
It appears that the strength of character of a majority of Americans has been broken and they want to stick their heads in the sand and wait until radical Islam kicks our exposed butts! Shame, shame!
