Letter: Many mistakes have been made by Bush
Wednesday, April 11, 2007 | 7:33 a.m.
We have reached the four-year mark in the liberation of Baghdad and in the tragic war in Iraq. President Bush seems to have lost his "Mission Accomplished" swagger as his policies and plans have crumbled .
A war waged with profoundly flawed assumptions has cost the lives of more than 3,200 brave American men and women of our armed forces, forced more than 1.5 million Iraqis to flee their country and generated more than 1.6 million internal displacement of its citizens. Recent polls and demonstrations in Iraq reflect, as here, a consensus that life in Iraq is the worst.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and beleaguered Attorney General Alberto Gonzales coined the epitaph for the Bush administration: "Mistakes were made." Masterful in its passive voice and avoidance of real admission of regret, it sums up the hallmark of the reign of King George II.
"Mistakes were made":
We are now faced with a possible confrontation with a nuclear Iran. God bless and save America!
