Did anyone notice that the proposal sent by Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman to the NBA wasn't really, well, a proposal? It was a six-paragraph letter from Goodman, County Commission Chairman Rory Reid and LVCVA boss Rossi Ralenkotter that basically said: "Las Vegas is a great place. Betting is regulated. Let's talk more." It's clear that the gamers are not thrilled with the idea of a team here. If Goodman had persuaded them, the "proposal" would not be so thin. Remember Commissioner David Stern, in that choreographed move during the All-Star game, asked Goodman to present a proposal to address betting. This doesn't. So this won't mollify Stern the puritan. Maybe his bosses can loosen him up.
